Communication MCP servers
Chat, email and notifications.
Communication MCP servers connect an assistant to the channels your team talks in. The reason to install one is usually retrieval rather than posting: an enormous amount of a team's actual decision-making sits in message history that nobody will ever search again.
Reading is where the value is concentrated. Finding the thread where a decision was made, summarising a channel you were away from, tracing when a problem was first mentioned — all of it is work an agent does well and a human does reluctantly.
Posting is the part to introduce carefully. Anything the agent sends, your colleagues receive, and there is no undo that reaches everyone who already saw it.

What people build with communication MCP servers
Catching up on what you missed
Summarise a busy channel over a period and get the decisions and open questions rather than every message in order.
Finding the thread where it was decided
Search history for the conversation that settled something, so the reasoning can be quoted rather than reconstructed.
Reporting into the channel
Post a build result, a summary or a status into the place the team already looks, instead of somewhere they have to remember to check.
Drafting the awkward message
Have the agent read the thread and draft a reply with the context in front of it — then send it yourself.
Choosing a communication MCP server
- Check the scope model carefully. These platforms let you limit an app to specific channels; a server confined to the channels you work in is a much smaller footprint.
- Prefer read scopes to start. Search and history alone justify the install.
- Check whether it can read private channels and DMs, and decide deliberately. Often the answer should be no.
- Confirm your workspace admin allows custom integrations before you spend an afternoon on the setup.
Before you connect one
Message history is other people's writing, and they wrote it without expecting it to be read by an AI client. Check your organisation's policy, limit the integration to the channels you need, and be conservative about anything that can post.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read private channels?
Only those your token has been granted, and on most platforms private access is a separate scope you have to request. Leaving it off is the safe default.
Will people know a message came from an agent?
Yes — integrations post under their own app identity, so messages are visibly from the integration rather than from you.
Do I need to be a workspace admin?
Usually to create the app, yes. Many workspaces restrict who can install integrations, so this often needs a conversation with whoever administers yours.
Install any of these
Every server on this page carries a one-line install command on its own listing. Paste it into your client config and restart — the communication tools appear in your next session.
